For some reason I've been thinking of Osho. Osho Rajneesh. And the way he died. And the way, before that, he was thrown, unceremoniously, out of the Land of Opportunity, like a beggar, like one who had gone there a begging opportunity, when he was distributing opportunity to many hundreds of thousands of yearning seekers.
Only Pritish Nandy wrote condemning the US's treatment of Rajneesh, a moving piece in The Illustrated Weekly pointing out that he was a guru, not a criminal and saying the US routinely accorded criminals much more respect.
What we respect says a lot about us.

'What we respect says a lot about us.'
so true
Ditto Rohini's comment.
hmm.. I've been watching too much of Godfather lately.
but sticking to the post,
does self-respect count too?
Self respect? I guess so. especially since it implies a sense of self to begin with, right? And one can only sense a self if there's knowledge of self, which takes us right back to Know Thyself, my favourite lesson of all time.
Know thyself. Simple, and through even very seemingly unimportant things like giving up assignments, you can know yourself.
Why didn't so many of you hand in your assignments? What does it say about yourself? The places from where this not doing comes - this not doing something you made a deal to do, with someone who assumes that any work must include your parameters of doing too - those places are as much a part of your self as anythign else.
I would say, definitely self respect says a lot about the person who is respecting her self!!
